Summary
The availability of a method for the fully automated determination
of specific IgE (sIgE) based on a system which has normally
been used for conventional determination by immunochemical
methods (Immulite 2000; DPC Los Angeles, CA), and which has
been used for this purpose for several years in our organisation,
led us to verify the analytical quality of the proposed method,
leaving aside purely organisational aspects which we have
discussed elsewhere, by carrying out appropriate testing
in accordance with a sufficiently comprehensive and detailed
protocol. We chose as our control method the procedure historically
used in our laboratory and generally considered valid for
the in-vitro determination of sIgE (UniCAP 100 [ImmunoCAP
100]; Pharmacia Diagnostics AB, Uppsala, Sweden).
