Allergic Patients—Immunotherapy

When a patient’s allergic disease is not controlled or requires multiple medications, allergen immunotherapy (also called allergy vaccine therapy) may offer an effective treatment option.1 Immunotherapy involves administration of a series of specific allergens in order to reduce disease severity. Select patient immunotherapy based on the patient’s allergic sensitivities as determined by specific IgE antibodies (demonstrated by skin prick testing or specific IgE blood testing).2 Clinical studies have demonstrated specific benefit for patients with allergic rhinitis and asthma.1 In addition, patients may gain years of symptom relief after immunotherapy has been completed. Immunotherapy candidates require referral to an allergy specialist.1
